Century House has plenty of programs for folks aged 50 and up.

New West residents are invited to take part in a fun event at Century House this weekend.

The Backyard Birds and MiniBeasts learn-and-build workshop features a hands-on day of learning and building. A guest speaker will provide information about local flora and fauna and ways to ensure their habitat is being protected.

“We will also be building chickadee nest boxes that participants are welcome to take home with them or donate to the community, and we will also be creating gardens for ‘minibeasts’ to provide habitat for some of the smallest, yet hugely important insects in our backyards,” said a notice about the event.

The multi-age event, taking place on Saturday, March 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., includes lunch, snacks and refreshments. Pre-register at Century House (620 Eighth St. or 604-519-1066) ahead of time, so enough supplies are on hand for participants.

Backyard Birds and MiniBeasts is part of Century House’s Meet in the Middle initiative, a community-based intergenerational leadership project that will see youth and seniors working on five community-based intergenerational leadership projects.
