The Royal City Jewellers and Loans’ Tie Day has raised more than $200,000 for the food bank during its 20-year run.

The Columbia Street business capped off its final Tie Day event on Nov. 26, when it raised about $6,000 for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society. Any guesses what celebrity’s tie fetched the highest price in the online auction?

“Robert Bateman,” said Ken Basso, general manager of Royal City Jewellers and Loans. I think his ended up being around $350 and then Don Cherry’s was Number 2, his was close to that. Number 3, I’m not 100 per cent sure, but I think it was Justin Trudeau.”

While the auction included ties from the likes of crooner Michael Bublé and legendary actress/comedian Carol Burnette, Basso wasn’t surprised Bateman’s brought in the most bucks.

“He always does pretty good,” he said. “His is original art so it’s really nice.”

Popular meteorologist Mark Madryga was on hand to lead a Let’s Make a Deal game where people could win a variety of prizes.

“It was fun,” Basso said of the Tie Day celebration. “The people that were here had a great time.
