One Thing Lockets in New West fights isolation

Movers & Shakers

A New Westminster business is aiming to fight isolation – one locket at a time.

Setareh Bateni recently opened One Thing Lockets in River Market. At One Thing Lockets, each piece of jewelry comes with a message inside a handcrafted locket.

“The message is another answer to a simple yet powerful question: What is the one thing you bring to this world? The answer is written on a piece of paper and included in the locket. It creates a moment of connection between you and the person who sent the message,” said a press release from River Market. “Fighting isolation in this way reminds each person of their value.”

Bateni also aims to fight isolation on another front, by hiring local moms who are hesitant to go back to work and may feel isolated. Her goal is to give them the confidence and skills needed as they re-enter the workforce.

Bateni also donates 10% of profits to post-partum depression organizations.

One Thing Lockets is holding its grand opening on Saturday, Nov. 30 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 810 Quayside Dr.

“The grand-opening day will offer a one-time sale in time for your Christmas gift-giving needs,” said the press release. “There will also be a make-your-own Christmas gift event where everything you make for your loved ones will be 50% off. The store staff will help you with creations. Treats and decorating the One Thing Christmas tree with our own One Thing Message for the world will be offered.”
