Local businesses are hearing firsthand about initiatives underway to respond to the COVID-19 crisis.
The chamber has been hosting a virtual business series since early January, focusing on a variety of business-related topics. The series has shifted to a forum where local officials have a chance to connect with local businesses to hear about their needs and concerns.
Today’s guest at the Lunch & Learn event is Jeff Norris, president and CEO of the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation. He will provide an update on the current situation at RCH, plans that are in place to address future challenges, ways the hospital and local businesses are working together, and the needs of the hospital, the foundation and its workers.
Lunch & Learn events take place on Wednesdays from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Members of the New West business community can register at www.newwestchamber.com.
New Westminster-Burnaby MP Peter Julian is next week’s guest on the New Westminster Chamber of Commerce’s Lunch & Learn event on Wednesday, April 15.
Rnold Smith, CEO of the New Westminster Chamber of Commerce, said many businesses appreciated hearing from Mayor Jonathan Cote at the April 1 event, where he talked about some of the initiatives the city has implemented to help local business survive the COVID-19 pandemic.
New Westminster MLA Judy Darcy is expected to take part in the series in the coming weeks.
Because live events have been shut down because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the New Westminster Chamber of Commerce is expanding its virtual offerings in the coming weeks. Some topics being explored include: an innovation series – helping businesses adapt to the new environment; an opportunity series – helping to understand how the COVID-19 pandemic will change the economic landscape and reflect on what that means for business; a mental health series – helping business leaders and their employees manage worry, anxiety and stress; and virtual networking events – providing opportunities for businesses to connect and support each other.
