The Wylde Wood Collective, which last June in River Market is making a move to 12th Street. It's striving to be a one-of-a kind destination for fantasy enthusiasts.

The Wylde Wood Collective is on the move.

The shop, which opened in the upper level of River Market in June 2018, is moving in to a new location at 630 12th St. The move has already gotten underway, but it’s having a last hurrah at River Market on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. as part of the New West Craft Winter Night Market.

The shop will also be open at its new location that day.

“It will be a very busy season for us, but it’s a labour of love,” said shop owner Melissa Mary Duncan.

While The Wylde Wood Collective isn’t yet a money-making venture for Duncan or her partner-to-be, Toby Anne Stanley, they hope it will be in the future.

“We do believe it because we strongly feel there is a need for fantasy and historic artists, authors and craftspeople to have a brick and mortar location where they can meet with clients, hold classes and events and sell their wares. To build ties to other artists,” Duncan said in a press release. “Creating as we do can be a solitary experience, so the social ties we are building with each other are vital.”

The shop, which celebrates faerie, mythic, fantasy, steampunk and goth themes, sells a variety of items.

“So many other stores, conventions and events that featured artists in our genres have ceased to be or changed their focus away from local and away from handmade. We refuse to do that,” Duncan said. “We will continue to exist as a voice for these artists and as a platform to the public for them as long as we are able. We really feel we are building something special.”
