New West biz contest generates lots of interest

Level-Up My Brand 2020 has had a “very strong response” from organizations and community members – and there’s still time to get involved.

Rich Patterson, one of the co-founders of Level-Up My Brand contest, said there had been 33 applications as of Feb. 20, with applications being accepted until Feb. 29. That compares to a total of 32 applications submitted in the 2018 contest.

A new addition to this year’s Level-Up My Brand contest is the ability for community members to vote online for their favourite application. As of Feb. 20, 26,400 voted had been cast for the various submissions.

“When the contest closes Feb 29, our all-volunteer committee will begin merit-scoring the applications,” Patterson said. “A Top 9 will be identified based on scoring and a 10th will be added based on the popular vote. Those top-10 will advance to the April 1 live finale.”

Everyone is welcome to attend the free event, which is taking place on Wednesday, April 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at 100 Braid St. A celebrity judging panel will review and decide who will win the grand prize, as well as two runners-up.

“We are so pleased to see how it is bigger and better by all metrics so far and there is still one week to apply,” Patterson said in an email to the Record. “Some of the feedback we have received is that it’s challenging people up and making them get creative. They are getting out of their comfort zones, which is cool.”

As an example, Patterson said Level-Up My Brand encouraged applicants to include video submissions with the online questionnaire.

“Nine out of 10 applicants has included a video. We have started watching them, and frankly, they are amazing! Creative, funny, heart-warming,” he said. “People put their hearts and souls into their work and it shows. I wish we had grand prize package for every one of them.”

Applicants are competing for a prize package valued at $18,500, which will include design advice, company swag, new business cards, promotional video, vehicle wrap, signage, financial, advice, a private lunch with the mayor and more. Two runners up will receive a swag and beer prize to thank them for entering.
