VANCOUVER — Police in Vancouver say they are investigating a stabbing in the city's entertainment district.
The police department says in a news release that additional officers were deployed to the downtown core after capacity limits were lifted at bars and restaurants as part of a relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions across B.C.
They say thousands of people flooded the Granville Street area, lining up for bars and wandering the streets, which police say led to multiple conflicts.
They say officers intervened after a Vancouver resident in his 20s was stabbed and the man was taken to hospital for emergency surgery and is expected to recover.
A 21-year-old man from Surrey was arrested at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
The police department says additional officers will be deployed to manage crowds throughout the long weekend.
