Man charged, victim identified in Vancouver's first homicide of 2024

Both the suspect and victim were found in an East Vancouver home.

Dwight William Kematch has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Alexander Lo in Vancouver on Jan. 28.

The victim in Vancouver's first alleged homicide of 2024 has been identified.

Alexander Lo, a 31-year-old Vancouver man, died early Sunday morning, Jan. 28, according to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD). His body was found in a home near the intersection of Knight Street and East 33rd Avenue around 1 a.m. after police were called to the site.

Police have also identified a suspect, 39-year-old Dwight William Kematch. He was arrested in the East Vancouver house when Lo was discovered. Kematch has now been charged with second-degree murder, according to the VPD.

Initially, police weren't able to identify Lo.

Kematch remains in police custody at this time, according to the VPD.

A court date for Feb. 9 for a bail hearing.
