Several more workers at major grocery stores operating in Burnaby have tested positive for the COVID-19 in recent days, as well as the rest of Metro Vancouver and into the Fraser Valley.

Two different Safeway stores in Burnaby have seen recent coronavirus cases involving staff.

The latest is the Safeway in Burnaby Heights at 4440 Hastings St., with the worker’s last shift on April 5. Two cases at the Kensington Plaza Safeway store have also been reported so far in April, with the latest case being reported April 9 with the worker’s last shift being on April 1.

Another worker at the Real Canadian Superstore at Metropolis at Metrotown has tested positive for COVID-19, with their last shift worked on April 7. Another staff member also tested positive in recent weeks.

These cases follow recent cases involving staff at the Wholesale Club store on Kingsway in the Metrotown area.

Fraser Health has also issued a warning about a COVID-19 exposure at a Burnaby beauty salon. The health authority posted on its website a notification about First Hair and Beauty Studio, warning customers and staff who were at this location from March 23-25 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. The business is located at 7639 – Sixth St. in the Edmonds neighbourhood.

T&T Supermarket is also reporting new cases at the following Metro Vancouver stores:

  • Central City Store - #3000-10153 King George Blvd, Surrey: The last day the part-time associate worked was April 2
  • Osaka store in Park Royal, with the last day worked being April 3

Sobeys, Inc, the parent company of Safeway, Thrifty Foods, and franchisor of discount grocery chain FreshCo, indicated in recent days on its case tracker that four people working at three of its Metro Vancouver Safeway stores have tested positive for the virus. The affected stores are as follows:

  • FreshCo -  100-10151 No. 3 Road Richmond: The last day the franchise employee worked was April 7
  • FreshCo - 300- 20201 Lougheed Hwy, Maple Ridge: The last day the franchise employee worked was April 4
  • Thrifty Foods - 170 Brew St, Port Moody: Last day the two infected employees worked was April 4

Please note, the Sobeys case tracker misidentifies the location of the Lougheed Highway FreshCo as being in Delta and does not list the correct address for the Port Moody Thrifty Foods.

Loblaw Companies Ltd, the parent company of Real Canadian Superstore, No Frills, and other local chains, provided updates to its COVID-19 employee case listings on April 13 indicating cases at the following store locations in the Metro Vancouver region:

  • Park Royal City Market, 845 Park Royal North, West Vancouver: The last day the team member worked was on April 10
  • Dennis' No Frills Coquitlam, 100 - 1960 Como Lake Ave., Coquitlam: The last day the team member worked was on April 9

The No Frills in Coquitlam case is that of a third employee, joining two other previously reported coronavirus cases tracked among employees at that particular store. Additionally, Loblaw is reporting a case north of the region in the Sea to Sky in hard-hit Whistler; that store worker is from the Sewak's Your Independent Grocer at 8200 Bear Paw Trail and last had a shift on April 9.
