A Kamloops registered nurse has been suspended for two months after concerns were raised about transparency and alleged “disparaging comments” about other health-care professionals.

In addition to the suspension, Sheryl Yaremco will also be required for three years to only work directly under a physician, naturopath or pharmacist.

According to a statement from the B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives, Yaremco’s Tru HealthSpan was flagged after the college received reports alleging a number of issues.

“Concerns identified included failing to be clear with clients with respect to her lack of prescribing authority and the involvement of a physician in the practice, incomplete documentation, unprofessional language and making disparaging comments about the manner in which other health-care professionals manage clients with respect to specific medical conditions,” the statement read.

According to the college, Yaremco agreed to the two-month suspension and three-year supervisory requirement. She will also have to complete a six-month mentorship and additional course work, and provide monthly updates to the college.

“The inquiry committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public,” the statement read.

A notice on the Tru HealthSpan website tells prospective patients the clinic is “not accepting new clients or making appointments at this time.”

Tru HealthSpan had been operating in Kamloops and Houston, B.C.

On the Tru HealthSpan website, Yaremco is described as an “integrative and restorative health practitioner” who is “internationally board certified in advanced bio-identical hormone therapy.”

Her bio on the site says she became interested in holistic nutrition and women’s health after years working as a critical care nurse.
