Monday, Feb.15

The New Westminster Puffers Club meets at New Westminster Public Library auditorium, 716 Sixth Ave., 12:30 to 2 p.m.  Anyone with or having friends with COPD, sleep apnea, asthma or any other breathing problems is welcome to attend. Special guest speaker each month.

Tuesday, Feb. 16 and Wednesday, Feb. 17

Art therapy for children and parents, Ecole Qayqayt Elementary, 85 Merrivale St., 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Learn how to nurture resiliency in your children and strengthen the connection between you and your child through creativity. Expect a lot of fun, hands-on activities. Language support and child minding available and bus tickets are available for low-income families. Priority for this MOSAIC program is for permanent residents. Register at 604-345-7737.

Friday, Feb. 19

New Westminster Environmental Partners are hosting Green Drinks, 7 p.m., at Rain City Juicery, 417 Front St. Community members will have an opportunity to meet like-minded neighbours and discuss upcoming projects. Free.

Saturday, Feb. 20

Royal City Farmers Market winter market winter market, 11 a.m.to 3 p.m. on Belmont Street (just off Sixth Street) in uptown New Westminster. Farmers, food trucks, artisans, gourmet food producers will be gathering to create a truly authentic winter farmers market experience.

Tuesday, Feb. 23 and Wednesday, Feb. 24

Parent support workshop: employment readiness and goal setting, Ecole Qayqayt Elementary, 85 Merrivale St. Discuss your passion and employment goals now and for the future, and learn about expanding your network, cold calls, resume writing and interview skills. New Westminster Death Café, 7 to 8:30 p.m., Renaissance Books, 43 Sixth St. Death Cafes are not a grief support group, but a casual evening where people of all ages gather to build community and talk about something we all have in common. World Poetry New Westminster celebrates Black History Month with Roger Blenheim, who presents a retrospective of black poets with readers. Candice James will launch Short Shots, a coffee table poetry book, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., 716 Sixth Ave. Includes refreshments and a free raffle.

Friday, Feb. 26

SFU Café Scientifique, a free discussion group for teens, adults and seniors, 7 to 9 p.m., Boston Pizza, 1045 Columbia St. The universe is not just expanding – it is expanding faster every day. Dr. Levon Pogosian will review the history leading to the astounding discovery of cosmic acceleration in 1998 and the challenges that cosmologists are addressing today.

Girl Guides of New Westminster District, 51st annual international fair to celebrate the international sisterhood of Guiding in 145 nations around the world, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (colour party and formal presentation at 11 a.m., Lord Tweedsmuir Elementary School gym, 1714 Eighth Ave. The Sparks, Brownie and Pathfinders will have exhibits and presentation on display, the Rangers will have a concession stand and there will be a bake sale to raise fund for the Canadian World Friendship Fund.
