Take Shakespeare's Julius Caesar and send it through a gritty, modern crime lens and what you get is this summer's teen production from Carousel Theatre.
A pair of New Westminster teens - 15-year-old Sofia Newman and 16-year-old Luke McAndless-Davis - are taking part in this year's production.
Newman, who is the daughter of stage professionals Lisa Bunting and Richard Newman (the latter is appearing this summer at Bard on the Beach), takes on the famous "Friends, Romans, Countrymen" speech as Marc Antony.
She has previously performed with the program in As You Like It, Macbeth and Taming of the Shrew, along with a slew of spots in other productions.
McAndless-Davis takes on the title role of Julius Caesar after previously taking on roles as varies as Sly from Taming of the Shrew to Sonny in Grease. He also has film and television credits under his belt, including a spot in Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2 and Level Up.
Both are students at New Westminster Secondary School.
The Teen Shakespeare program at Carousel is celebrating its 21st year by tackling the famous play with a modern mob-family drama spin.
Teen actors aged 13 to 18 from across B.C. are taking part in the production, playing on the Performance Works outdoor stage on Granville Island.
The show will run till Aug. 13. Shows run Monday to Saturday at 7: 30 p.m. with matinees on Aug. 6 and Aug. 13 at 2 p.m.
Tickets are free, but advance reservations can be made at $5 per seat.
