GET THEATRICAL THIS SUMMER

They're across the river these days, but their roots are in New Westminster - and local folks are invited to check out what they have to offer.

The Royal Canadian Theatre Company is offering a young teens' summer acting camp for participants aged 12 to 15.

It runs Monday to Saturday, July 9 to 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily at the Newton Cultural Centre in Surrey.

"This camp is geared towards increasing confidence, supplying fun physical activity, building creativity, developing team spirit and responsibility and who knows - maybe we'll find a new star!" says a press release about the group.

The camp participants will rehearse a play to present to family and friends on the final day.

Organizers say it's suitable for all levels of experience, and acting courses are taught by qualified, working professional actors.

It costs $300 per youth, with a $50-per-person discount for siblings registering at the same time. The Royal Canadian Theatre Company is overseen by artistic managing director Ellie King, well-known in New Westminster for her years of work as the artistic director of the Raymond Burr Performing Arts Centre.
