The stage is set for the second in a series of local talent showcases at the Columbia Theatre.

Salut is onstage at the theatre on Friday, June 2 at 8 p.m.

It will feature local acts including singer Crystal Dorval, musician Elliot Vaughn, magician Wes Barker and mentalist Christopher Taylor, among others.

It's part of a new initiative by the Columbia Theatre to help promote local talent.

"There are amazing, talented people everywhere - they can sing, dance, act, juggle, perform magic and mind-blowing stunts, and they live in our community," says the theatre's Brad Tones, who's an actor himself, in a press release. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Reserve by calling 604-522-4500 or emailing [email protected].

You can also contact Brad if you'd like to perform in an upcoming show.

FESTIVAL OF SONG

A New Westminster voice teacher will be featured in the upcoming SONGFIRE Festival of Song.

Lambroula Pappas will be teaching several workshops as part of the festival and also performing in three concerts on June 14, 18 and 22.

SONGFIRE, presented by the Vancouver International Song Institute, runs June 3 to 24 at UBC and other Vancouver venues. It brings together local and international artists to celebrate art song.

Check out more at www.songfire.ca or watch this space - I'll have more details as it approaches.
