The world's premier touring guitar festival is coming to the Massey Theatre this weekend.

International Guitar Night is on at the Massey on Friday, Nov. 4, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Brian Gore founded International Guitar Night in 1995 as a way to bring together the world's finest guitarists and composers to play their original songs and share musical ideas with their peers.

For each tour, he brings together a new cast of guitarists to perform a program of solos, duets and quartets - all highlighting the range and diversity of the world of the acoustic guitar.

This year's 11th North American tour features Adrian Legg, Lulo Reinhardt, Marco Pereira and Gore himself.

The San Francisco-based Gore is gaining a reputation as one of the most influential performers of his generation, and his music has been featured on National Public Radio in the U.S.

Reinhardt's guitar playing has led him on many musical voyages of discovery - to Spain in search of flamenco roots, to South America exploring the various musical styles of Latin jazz.

Legg - who was once described as Joe Satriani as "simply the best acoustic guitar player I've ever heard" - has been earning praise from critics since he released his first U.S. recording, Guitars and Other Cathedrals, in 1990.

Pereira received a classical guitar master's degree in performance from the Universit Musicale Internationale of Paris, as well as a master's degree in musicology from the University of Paris-Sorbonne. He has been influenced by jazz and Latin-American music and by Brazilian styles.

The Massey Theatre is at 735 Eighth Ave. Tickets are $28 regular, $18 for students and seniors, and can be purchased online at www.masseytheatre.com, by phone at 604-521-5050 or at the door.
