Comedy and hockey are taking centre stage at the Columbia Theatre this week.

The Columbia will be hosting a special hockey night on Friday, showing the Vancouver Canucks vs. Dallas Stars game on a 24-foot screen.

The night will also include a preshow comedy act, with comedy during both intermissions - all of the comedy being geared towards hockey and its fans.

Among the up-and-coming comics on stage will be Alex Sparling, who is making a name for himself on the Vancouver scene.

Food and drinks will be available during the game.

The game is free, and it's planned to be the first of many shown on the Columbia's big screen.

The theatre is also planning to venture into some other free entertainment - family-friendly and old-time favourite movies showing on Sundays for free.

The Columbia Theatre is at 530 Columbia St. Check out its website at www.thecolumbia.ca.
