The sound of young voices will fill the Massey Theatre on March 1.
New Westminster Secondary School choirs are joining forces with two local children's choirs, the Richard McBride Elementary School choir and the Vivo Children's Choir, for a spring choral concert at the Massey Theatre.
The 7 p.m. concert will feature individual performances by three NWSS choirs, including the senior and junior vocal jazz choirs and the chamber choir, and by the two children's choirs, as well as a mass performance of all the groups.
"A highlight of the concert will be a mass performance of children and youth voices joining together for a rousing African piece, as well as a gorgeous arrangement of a classic hymn that's bound to move listeners," said Kelly Proznick, NWSS choral director, in a press release.
Tickets to the concert are $7, available through the Massey Theatre box office at 604-521-5050 or online through www. masseytheatre.com.
Money raised from the concert goes to support the music program at NWSS, which has been providing high-calibre music education in New Westminster since 1960.
More than 300 students from grades 8 to 12 are registered in performance-based courses including concert bands, jazz bands, choirs, jazz combos and chamber ensembles, and another 250 to 300 are enrolled in non-performance-based courses in guitar and music composition and technology.
