New Westminster's historic Columbia Theatre has seen many shows in its day - but chances are it's never seen one quite like this.
Beatles Burlesque is coming to the theatre on Saturday, March 24.
The show is presented by Burnaby-born guitarist Blue Morris, following two soldout shows in Vancouver.
"There couldn't be a better venue in the Lower Mainland for this show than the Columbia," Morris said. "The restorations have brought back the beauty of the old theatre, and now we get to play this historic music there."
Morris noted he was introduced to the music of the Beatles by his dad in childhood, and he took guitar lessons at a small guitar shop in Burnaby to learn as many Beatles songs as he could.
"Now I get to play this music at a beautiful theatre and for some of the best burlesque artists in town," he said.
Morris said the Beatles' music lends itself well to burlesque.
"There is such a great variety of song styles, and the emotional power of the music gives the burlesque performers so much to work with," he said.
The Beatles Burlesque show will feature some of Vancouver's top burlesque performers, including Miss Fitt, Calamity Kate, Connie Lingus, Miss Kiss, Miss Via Rose and Violet Femme.
"I love performing burlesque to a live band," said Miss Fitt. "Unlike dancing to a track, during a performance the dancer can communicate with the musicians through their movements. Live music brings a great energy to the stage, adding an exciting dynamic to a performance."
The show is at the Columbia Theatre on Saturday, March 24. Doors open at 7: 30 p.m., with showtime at 8: 30 p.m. The Columbia is at 530 Columbia St.
