An award-winning New Westminster artist is being featured in a new exhibition at the Van Dop Gallery.

On Saturday, June 16, the gallery is presenting a solo exhibition by Angie Au Hemphill.

Au Hemphill, a native of Hong Kong, started her art training at the age of 12 with watercolour master Lo Ku Chune.

After immigrating to Canada in 1973 and graduating from high school in Edmonton, she went on to study at the Alberta College of Art in Calgary, where she graduated with a bachelor of fine arts degree in 1980.

She then moved to Vancouver, where she has been working as a commercial artist and professional painter for more than 25 years.

"With a passion for painting, Angie's images take an ordinary street or nature's scene and transform it into effervescent landscapes full of the vitality of life and the energy of art-making," a press release says. "The imagery is dynamic and has a sense of movement that captures the essence of the ever passing of time and the uniqueness of the moment being depicted."

Au Hemphill's work is influenced by her admiration for impressionist styles.

Au Hemphill is a senior signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, a gold medal winner with the illustrious Spilsbury Medal Award, and two-time recipient of the Federation of Canadian Artists' award of excellence.

Her work can be found in corporate and private collections worldwide.

Van Dop Gallery is at 421 Richmond St.
