Art lovers, be sure to set aside some time on the weekend of May 4 to 6. New West Artists is holding its next show and sale at the River Market that weekend, with an opening reception on Friday evening from 6: 30 to 8: 30 p.m.

Art lovers, be sure to set aside some time on the weekend of May 4 to 6.

New West Artists is holding its next show and sale at the River Market that weekend, with an opening reception on Friday evening from 6: 30 to 8: 30 p.m.

The exhibit and sale, which is taking place on the second floor of the market, will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

The exhibition, Art Squared, features 12-by-12inch paintings and photographs, with all paintings $100 and all photographs $50.

It incorporates a variety of styles of work in four categories: floral, landscape, pets and surrealism.

There's also a related exhibition on display from May 4 to 31.

In the visual verse exhibition, 40 poems have been interpreted visually by the artists.

That's on at the Network Hub (www. thenetworkhub.ca) on the second floor of the market.

IN THE MOOD FOR SOME THEATRE

Golden Age Theatre is offering up a light-hearted look at how seniors' lifestyles have changed over the past 20 years.

The Century House theatre group is bringing its production of In the Mood to the stage at Century House on Friday, May 4 at 7: 30 p.m. and Saturday, May 5 at 1: 30 p.m.

The play is written by Greg Finnegan and directed by Margo Prentice.

It takes a look at the lives of three families in a retirement home over a three-week period, and the theatre group is promising both drama and romance.

Tickets are $8 for members or $10 for non-members.

AWARD WINNERS AT MONDAY MOVIES

An early heads-up for the film fans out there.

The next Last Mondays at the Movies screening will feature My Week With Marilyn - Simon Curtis's film about Marilyn Monroe, starring Michelle Williams.

It's part of the Arts Council of New Westminster film series that brings award-winning Canadian, foreign and independent films to the Massey Theatre on the last Monday of each month.

The May film is set for May 28. And, of course, on April 30, it's The Iron Lady - featuring Meryl Streep's Academy Award-winning turn as Margaret Thatcher.

All movies start at 7: 30 p.m., and tickets are $9.
