Fans of fringe theatre can find a whole host of offerings right here at home this fall.
The Way Off-Broadway Wednesdays series is continuing at the Heritage Grill, with a variety of fringe festival performers bringing their shows to the stage on a by-donation basis.
Tonight, you can see Megan Kurzeja and Chad Kamer in It Figures, a sneak preview of their show heading to the Vancouver Fringe Festival next week.
On Sept. 6, you can enjoy The Gigantic, Enormous, Very Large, Unfathomably Sized Painting, an absurdist crime dramedy from Vancouver’s Eternal Youth Theatre Collective.
On Sept. 13, check out Cat Kidd’s Hyena Subpoena, described as a “multimedia meditation on predator and prey,” exploring the secret lives of creatures from the African savannah, told through poetry set to a “cool-as-a-cat” soundtrack.
On Sept. 20, it’s The Inventor of All Things, the true story of Leo Szilard, the Jewish-Hungarian physicist who wrecked the Nazi bomb, as told by U.K. slam poet Jem Rolls.
On Sept. 27, Wes Babcock and Nancy Kenny come to the stage with Your Princess is In Another Castle – the story of what happens when Princess Polly loses the popular vote to a mannequin and accepts the help of a Prince Charming type to save the free world.
On Oct. 4, Devon More is hosting a Back Room Boom night, the first in a planned series of cabaret evenings featuring “magical mystery guests,” with poetry and music.
Then, in Oct. 11, it’s I Left My Heart In Ma’Sum Ghar, presented by comedian and army veteran Morris Bartlett with his own unique view of the brotherhood of soldiers and the War on Terror.
All Way Off-Broadway Wednesday shows happen at 7:30 p.m., and beverages and food are available to order. Shows are on a by-donation, pay-what-you-can basis and are open to everyone.
