Andrea Chekmar and Eryn Collins are once again hosting the third annual Brow of the Hill block party - and you're invited.

New West residents are invited to join in on the fun at this weekend’s annual block party in the Brow of the Hill neighbourhood.

Andrea Chekmar and Eryn Collins are hosting the third annual Brow of the Hill block party this weekend. It’s happening on Sunday, May 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Cornwall Park (1009 Cornwall St., just below 10th Street.)

“The original idea came from Eryn and I wanting to ring in spring with a neighbourhood block party. This will actually be our third year hosting it because it's been picking up steam since our first launch,” Chekmar said. “It's basically a chance for New Westminster neighbours to get to know each other, hang out, eat, and have fun.”

Although the event is called the Brow of the Hill Spring Gathering, organizers invite all New West residents to attend.

“This year we're going to have a live jazz band duo from the music class at Fraser River Middle School. The duo's name is Embodiment,” Chekmar said. “Previous years we've hired a DJ, so this is pretty special for our event this year.”

A professional make-up artist from Blanche MacDonald will be doing face-painting for kids. The event also features a seed and cuttings exchange table for gardeners.

Chekmar and Collins will be supplying barbecue hot dogs and veggie dogs, snacks, and non-alcoholic drinks.

“My most favourite part is the kid's mini market. We had this last year, and it was really special,” Chekmar said. “We have five to six crafter’s tables, where kids will set up their ‘vendor booths’ and sell crafts they've been furiously working on these last few weeks. Some of the crafts that will be there are bracelets, jewelry, greeting cards, handmade stickers, hair accessories, masks, lemonade and iced coffee.”
