With celebrities arriving in Toronto for TIFF, the city’s downtown core is peppered with gifting lounges filled with brands wanting to get their products into the hands of A-listers. We popped into several of the lounges to get a look at the goods the celebs will be walking away with. —Karen Kwan
Rock-It Promotions has once again the Tastemakers Lounge, now in its 12th year, which this year is being presented by Krispy Kreme Canada (so there is caffeine and sugar for stars needing a pick me up) at the Intercontinental Toronto Centre. The vibe here was relaxed when we dropped in, with services such as hair touch-ups from Salon Dew, manicures from CND, and a makeup and brow bar from Tweezerman. Sorel is back again this year, with a collection of urban chic and rugged boots for fall/winter, and you can easily pair them with some cozy socks from MacGregor.
Over at 128 Peter St., the NKPR IT x Producers Ball lounge has taken over the building and it’s bustling with activity. The W Magazine Portrait Studio is back again this year with Caitlin Cronenberg (who has in the past photographed stars including Natalie Portman and Robert Pattinson here). As for the many treatments and services you can try out here, there’s David’s Tea for hydration, pasta from Barilla Group, get a beauty touch-up from BeGlammed, play a game of ping pong, keep the good time going with a sip of bubbly from Henckell, and should you be leaving Toronto with more than you arrived with, no worries, as Toronto-based travel accessory brand Lug has a bag to help you tote your haul home. Also, there’s a philanthropic side at this lounge: art by Peter Tunney’s art will be auctioned off, with half of the proceeds going to benefit Artists for Peace and Justice.
At the Thompson Hotel, the Bask-It-Style lounge from GLO Communications is where A-lister’s can score a guidebook to Toronto from DK Publishing, a few novels, plus brands like Birkenstock and Cloud from Toronto shop Mila’s Fine Footwear (comfortable shoes might be much appreciated after a gala party in stilettos, after all). Other brands including Studio 1098 (a jewelry store midtown) and Mereadesso skincare round out the offerings, which will be included in custom giftbags that will be sent to the stars.
For the media, EGPR is back with their Essentials Lounge, treating media members with musts that’ll help them get through not only TIFF but also the fall season. Think VitaminWater for hydration, warm outerwear from Colmar Originals, sneakers (both for running and for lifestyle) from Saucony, and KMS and Smashbox Cosmetics to keep looking fresh and pretty at the parties.
TIFF runs from Sept 8 to 18. For tickets, special events and more, check out www.tiff.net
