Royal City's Sato rink cruises in curling playdown

The Royal City curling team skipped by Hayato Sato cleaned house at last week’s junior boys Coastal playdowns, hosted by the Royal City Curling Club. Sato’s team topped the event, beating the Marshall rink of Duncan 10-2 in the final.

The Royal City rink of Hayato Sato, Joshua Miki, Dawson Ballard and Troy Chong topped the regional playdowns last week to advance to the B.C. Junior boys curling championships, later this month in Vernon.

The Royal City curling team skipped by Hayato Sato cleaned house at last week’s junior boys Coastal playdowns, hosted by the Royal City Curling Club. Sato’s team topped the event, beating the Marshall rink of Duncan 10-2 in the final.
Sato’s squad went up 7-0 after three ends and ended it in the fifth with three more points.It catapults them into the provincial championships, Dec. 27 to Jan. 1 in Vernon.

They rolled through the first three games, beating Port Moody-Royal City’s Duncan-Wu rink 7-6 and the Richmond Kwok rink 5-2. The Sato team includes third Joshua Miki, second Dawson Ballard and lead Troy Chong.
Winning the B qualifiers was Nicholas Umbach’s rink, thanks to a 10-3 victory over Victoria’s Silversides.
The Umbach rink includes third Connor Deane, second Sam Husdon and lead Brenin Moore.
On the junior girls side, the Royal City/Tunnel Town tandem skipped by Jensen Taylor won the B qualifier, edging the Royea rink of Langley 7-5.
The Jensen rink includes third Meredith Cole, second Keira McCoy and lead Chelsea Taylor.
