Provincial AAA girls' and AA boys' basketball begins

The New Westminster Hyacks open the 2012 B.C. high school AAA girls' basketball championships today (Wednesday) at Capilano University. The Hyacks face Fraser Valley No. 3 seed Yale in an afternoon matchup, beginning at 5: 15 p.m.

The winner will take on the winner of Fraser Valley runner-up Brookswood and North Central champion Prince George in the final game of the day on Thursday.

The tournament continues through Friday, with final placement games on Saturday. The provincial final is scheduled for Saturday at Capilano University at 2 p.m.

The St. Thomas More Knights boys' basketball team will begin its quest for a B.C. title at the AA championships in Kamloops today.

The Knights will face Abbotsford Christian in their opening round game.

The boys' final placement games and provincial final are scheduled for Saturday.

In provincial junior varsity boys' basketball, New Westminster will be in action, beginning Thursday at Vancouver College in Vancouver. The JV Hyacks will face Walnut Grove in first-round action.
