New West drop title game to White Rock

The New Westminster Royals finished in second place to provincial champion White Rock-South Surrey at the Little League championship final at Memorial Park on Monday.

The Royals fell 7-1 to the South Surrey club that went unbeaten at the Little League inter-district competition.

New West advanced to the provincial final with a 9-3 win over host South Vancouver. White Rock blanked Little Mountain 10-0 in five innings in the other semifinal.

The Royals finished in a three-way tie with Little Mountain and South Van, all with similar 4-2 records after the round robin.

New West lost its opening game of the competition 7-0 to Little Mountain. They also fell 8-1 to White Rock-South Surrey.

The Moody Park club got back on track with a 12-5 win over South Van, before defeating Trail 10-4 in four innings.

New Westminster also beat Beacon Hill and Lynn Valley to finish at 4-2.
