While Major League Baseball remains in the dog days of summer, the Lower Mainland Baseball League is hitting its stride and the Final Four this weekend at Queen's Park Stadium.

The Burnaby Blue Jays are hoping to keep the ball rolling.

The two-time defending over-30 league champions advanced to the final four by clobbering the Vancouver Seagulls 18-3 last week.

Burnaby, who skated through the regular season at 15-1-0, erased a 1-0 deficit with an onslaught of hits, while Jordy Cunningham pitched a strong game for the win.

They meet the Aldergrove Giants 9 a.m. on Sunday, but manager Rod van Dorn said it could be the toughest game they've had all year, due to an injury to pitcher Jeff Weisgerber.

"What we have to do is hammer out some runs, because our defence has been outstanding," said van Dorn.

Aldergrove advanced to the final by upsetting No. 3 Richmond in the quarterfinals.

Van Dorn said he will put hurler Jeff Ammer on the mound, if healthy, and hope the big bats of players like home run leader Reid Wilderman can fill in the blanks.

"Guys have to come to play. We can win a game with our bats but the Giants are solid."

In the other semifinal, the upstart Burnaby Brewers will try to knock off powerhouse Howe Sound, in a game that starts at noon. The Brewers kept the drive alive by trouncing Langley last week 15-5, while Howe Sound ended the Burnaby Pirates' run in a 9-5 decision.

The championships are slated to go Sept. 8 or 9. Visit ballcharts.com/lmba for game time and date confirmation.
