LETTERS: Firefighters, paramedics praised for quick response

Dear Editor: With considerable gratitude, I take this opportunity to thank the New Westminster firefighters, the B.C. paramedics and the ER staff of Royal Columbian Hospital.

Dear Editor:

With considerable gratitude, I take this opportunity to thank the New Westminster firefighters, the B.C. paramedics and the ER staff of Royal Columbian Hospital.

At around midnight on June 27, my 93-year-old mother-in-law, Dorothy Bickerstaff, was having great trouble breathing and my wife called 911. Within minutes, the firefighters and paramedics arrived. Their confident professionalism and kindness calmed everyone, and they soon got my mother-in-law’s breathing under control and took her to Royal Columbian Hospital ER, where she was looked after with the same kind of professionalism as before.

I write this public thanks and appreciation from our family because we, too often, take for granted those wonderful people in our community who are there 24/7 in life-and-death situations to see us through our most difficult moments. After three days in hospital, Dorothy was home, feeling good, happy to be alive and schmoozing with her best pal, Thomas Tabby.

Again, thank you all on behalf of our family.

Bill Zander, New Westminster
