I am a 24-year-old graduate student and when I found out the truth about the climate crisis, I cried.

I cried to know that we have 10 years to cut our carbon emissions in half or we would be irreversibly on track for mass extinction. Article after article shot icy terror through my heart, including the UN’s declaration of one million species being critically at risk for extinction or that we will lose hundreds of thousands of human lives to climate change.
This week, MPs are debating federal climate emergency motions. Canada is warming at twice the global rate and we are experiencing more frequent and severe devastating floods and wildfires. There is no doubt that Canada, along with the rest of the world, is facing a climate emergency.
For those so concerned about the economy, the global transition to a clean energy economy is already underway at a rapid pace. Canada should be a part of it to help provide stable jobs, a diversified economy and a livable climate.
Canada is falling behind. We need to invest in the New Green Deal, and renewable, clean energy if we want to be be leaders on the global stage.
