Opinion: We need a ‘dating’ app for our dogs, Squamish

The app could be like Tinder, Grindr, Hinge, Bumble — whatever the latest human dating app is — only for dog meet-ups at nearby dog parks.

A Squamish doggy 'dating' app would be awesome, no?

Is there anything more pathetic than a pooch at the dog park when there are no other dogs to play with?

Of course, there are more sad things, but you know what I mean.

Standing at a Squamish dog park in about 30 centimetres of snow over the holidays, with my dog cocking his head at me as if I forgot to invite a play date, it struck me that some enterprising tech person in Squamish should come up with a totally free and uniquely Squamish app for that.

My border collie, Toby, was literally running up and down the length of the dog park fence, whining at passersby in the hopes of ‘enticing’ them to come in and play.

It was less than effective.

(If there is such a Squamish thing, email me! I haven’t seen it: jthuncher@squamishchief.com.)

Marriage nor a ‘happy ending’ need be the end game.

Just some fun playtime to tucker out Fido or Fifi.

Folks could log on and find like-minded dogs waiting at nearby parks to play.

Great headshots and dog profiles would be required, of course.

This would be Toby’s:

“Sensitive boy ready to romp:”

Bigger than your standard border collie — my two-legged mom says I resemble a jersey cow. (Yes, I still live with my mom and dad. I am just a pup.)

I can go from full sleep to full bark in an instant.

Love to be chased or do the chasing.

Possessive of my stick (admittedly, I have issues letting go).

Working on my trust issues with humans.

Looking for a fellow dog — gender not important, but must be spayed or neutered (not interested in starting a family)  —  who knows how to play hard but also likes to roll around in the snow/mud/dead fish and just chill.

Open to a threesome. More than three and I become overwhelmed, but I will give it a whirl.

Swipe right to meet me now.

Now, what could we call the app?

How about “Fido finder,” “Fur you,” “Dog date,” “’Paws’ for play,” or “Paws on the prowl”?

Dig me and Toby up if you get the app going!
