As most of us know, the speed limit in a school zone is 30 km/h from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during school days.
Whether you feel like it or not, whether you see kids outside or not, whether it's 4 p.m. and already dark, whether it's a middle school or elementary school, the speed limit is what it is.
If you have trouble remembering this, there are huge, conspicuous signs - bright yellow-painted signs - on the road, as well as cameras tracking your speed and giving you a big old sad face if you go too fast.
It appears that some of us need an accident, or a near-death experience, to get the point.
At 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 26 on Eighth Street outside of Fraser River Middle School, a blue Hyundai sedan sped up behind me, swerving wildly, and attempted to get past me in a single lane a total of three times.
In a school zone.
Unfortunately, I don't have cameras on my car, but I think this incident will change that.
This man then ran two red lights behind me, nearly taking out pedestrians, and then turned into the parkade for the Shops at New West station.
If you are this person, calm down. Do better.
