Letter: Protesting children are fighting for their very lives

Editor: It is so heartening to see how very enlightened, brave and sensible the young children of today are. (I saw the news) that 150 nations and millions of our youth protested in streets world-wide. They are fighting for their very lives.

It is so heartening to see how very enlightened, brave and sensible the young children of today are. (I saw the news) that 150 nations and millions of our youth protested in streets world-wide. They are fighting for their very lives.
We all have children and grandchildren who will not be able to live out their lives. Experts say life on this planet will end by 2050. Can you imagine your grandchildren facing such a fate? Climate change is occurring and accelerating, and will destroy all the oceans, greenery, and all living things.
Is it not logical to shut down the Alberta tar sands? Possibly reverse the damage presently being done? We in B.C. do not need the $14.4 billion Trans Mountain pipeline they are trying to force upon us.

Our backyards in Burnaby don't want it, either. Refine it in the Edmonton area, enrich and diversify Alberta's economy, have finished products to market world-wide. That might save some of the damage they are doing.
Many nations are going strictly to electric vehicles and passing legislation to ban internal combustion engines in the near future. Canada should do the same.
Please, let's not endanger our children while saddling them with a multi-billion dollar white elephant which destroys our planet.
