Dean Gibson, the city's director of parks, culture and recreation, and Bob Lenarduzzi, president of the Vancouver Whitecaps, announced a memorandum of understanding that would see the two groups exploring whether pro soccer could be played at Queen's Park Stadium in New West.

New Westminster signs a memorandum of understanding to work with Vancouver Whitecaps FC toward launching a United Soccer Leagues pro franchise at Queen’s Park Stadium starting in the 2015. The plan would require some upgrades to the stadium to accommodate the soccer team and would need baseball to be accommodated elsewhere in the city.

Five train cars filled with grain derail along Quayside Drive. While no one was injured and no environmental damage ensued, the derailment highlights the need for safe transport of good by rail.
