New Westminster’s new city council is sworn into office. Jonathan Cote, the city’s new mayor, is joined by incumbents Bill Harper, Jaimie McEvoy, Chuck Puchmayr and Lorrie Williams and newcomers Patrick Johnstone and Mary Trentadue.

A couple of new faces are in the mix at the school board. Kelly Slade Kerr and Mark Gifford join incumbents Jonina Campbell, Casey Cook, Michael Ewen, James Janzen and MaryAnn Mortensen.

A 52-year-old New West woman is killed while crossing Brunette Avenue between Keary and East Columbia Streets. It’s the second pedestrian fatality on city streets in recent weeks, following the death of a woman killed while crossing in a marked intersection at Sixth Street and Fifth Avenue.
