Is some employer going to need to find a whole new staff?

That’s my thought after finding out a $50-million jackpot has been won by a group ticket. The ticket will apparently be split 20 ways, but it’s not known yet if the winners know each other.

Some other mega-jackpots in the past have been won by a large group of co-workers, who then say they plan on quitting their jobs.

Which means the owner has to suddenly find a whole bunch of new staff. Imagine the company you work at suddenly losing 20 of your co-workers – my office would be a ghost town. And imagine you are the one poor schmuck who didn’t take part in the lottery pool and you have stay behind while the rest are off kicking it in the Caribbean.

Maybe your suddenly rich co-workers will toss you a bone and share a few bucks. Or at least treat you to a nice dinner.  I guess it depends on how much your co-workers like you or if they’re still mad that you always hit reply-all on work emails – even though you’re only responding to one person.

Loto-Quebec says the $50 million jackpot in Friday night's Lotto Max draw was purchased in a suburb just south of Montreal.

Spokesman Patrice Lavoie says in a tweet that the winner was a group ticket purchased in Brossard, Que., on Montreal's south shore.

Lavoie says each ticket holder will receive $2.5 million. There were also two Maxmillion prizes of $1 million each up for grabs, but neither was claimed. The jackpot for the next Lotto Max draw on May 10 will be approximately $12 million.
