A pitch to build a regional curling facility somewhere in the Tri-Cities has received an early endorsement from Port Moody city council. But councillors want to know more about the facility's cost before throwing their full weight behind it.

The Royal City Curling Club is warning members about a “possible exposure” of COVID-19 and detailing its response.

A posting on the RCCC Facebook page said the club received confirmation that a curler at the club tested positive for COVID-19.

“In response we have enacted our Covid-19 response plan,” the Facebook post. “Given the severe consequences of COVID-19, RCCC will work with Public Health authorities to support identifying anyone who may have been exposed and to take steps to protect the health of all curlers and staff.”

The club said the “possible exposure” at RCCC occurred on Oct. 22 during the men’s member evening league.

“There is no reason to believe that other leagues are impacted by this exposure,” said the statement.

“Out of an abundance of caution,” the club closed on Oct. 25 and completed a “deep clean of the facility.”

All men’s league games on Oct. 27 were cancelled.

“We are asking all curlers and staff at RCCC to be extra vigilant in self-monitoring for symptoms,” read the statement. “Symptoms of COVID-19 include coughing, sneezing, fever, sore throat, loss of smell or taste or GI symptoms (nausea, vomiting or diarrhea). No one should attend the curling club if they have any symptoms of COVID-19. If you do develop or have symptoms of COVID-19, however mild, please self-isolate and refer to the BC self-assessment tool to assess your symptoms and for further steps. You can also call HealthLink BC by dialing 811. We are committed to keeping you updated and will provide additional communication as information becomes available.”
