New Westminster resident, Gemma Snowball, has died after succumbing to injuries she sustained when a vehicle struck her Monday night at Sixth Street and Sixth Avenue.

The 25-year-old Australian native suffered major skull fractures, a broken pelvis and broken tibia when she was hit by a vehicle around 10: 30 p.m. March 11, according to a New Westminster Police Department press release.

Snowball died March 13 at Royal Columbian Hospital.

Sgt. Diana McDaniel said it's believed heavy rain and artificial lighting from the streetlights were a factor in the accident.

The details of the accident are still under investigation by the department's Traffic Section.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with police. It's unknown at this time if any charges will be laid.
