A robbery spree of New Westminster businesses has been stopped in its tracks, according to local police.

On July 20, the New Westminster Police Department received a report of a robbery that occurred at a local business and, over the next few weeks, the police continued to receive reports of robberies to businesses in the same area. Initial investigation showed that the robberies were likely related and appeared to involve the same suspect.

“Due to the seriousness of the offences, a number of different sections were assigned to investigate,” said a NWPD news release. “This included members from Patrol, Criminal Intelligence Unit, Crime Suppression Team, Forensic Identification Section and the Street Crime Unit.” stated Staff Sergeant Stuart Jette.

On Aug. 16, a 23-year-old male from New Westminster was arrested and charged with the following offences: four counts of robbery, one count of attempt to commit robbery, and five counts of intent to commit an indictable offence with a masked face.

The male remains in custody until his expected court appearance later today (Friday).
