A 41-year-old man was sent to hospital with a non-life-threatening “puncture wound” after a large fight broke out at a Church Street night club, New Westminster police say.

While driving downtown, an officer noticed a large group of people on Church Street, just around the corner from New West Police Department headquarters. A man approached the officer to say he was assaulted with a weapon.

Police determined that a verbal fight between two men escalated into a larger fight, involving about 10 people, resulting in the 41-year-old man’s injury.

“The NWPD major crime unit was called in to investigate, and are still working through video surveillance and speaking to witnesses,” said Sgt. Jeff Scott, NWPD spokesperson. “Our detectives are looking for more witnesses to come forward and for anyone who may have video of the incident.”

Anyone with information or video can contact the NWPD at 604-525-5411.
