VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Whitecaps have locked up a key piece of their backline, signing veteran right back Jake Nerwinski to a new two-year contract.

The agreement will see the 26-year-old from Lawrenceville, N.J., play for the Whitecaps through the 2022 season with a club option for 2023.

Nerwinski has 98 starts and 105 appearances across all competitions for the 'Caps and has registered three goals and eight assists.

Picked seventh overall by Vancouver in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, he is the second-longest tenured player on the Whitecaps roster behind homegrown midfielder Russell Teibert.

Coach Marc Dos Santos said in a statement that Nerwinski consistently puts in the work behind the scenes and sets a good example for younger players.

The Whitecaps are scheduled to open training camp later this month.
