Few may be aware that Richmond city hall could also be used as a wedding location, as long as it doesn't impact the city's business or events.

Here comes some good news for those looking to tie their knot on a budget amid the pandemic - the City of Richmond has a solution.

Getting married at the city hall could be a way to have a low-key marriage ceremony without spending too much money.

Vancouver City Hall made multiple news headlines recently after it offered micro-wedding services to the public.

Few may be aware that Richmond city hall could also be used as a wedding location, as long as it doesn't impact the city's business or events.

Requests for weddings to be held at city hall are rare, despite the beautiful outdoor spaces, such as the picturesque garden and water feature backdrops, said Richmond city spokesperson Clay Adams.

"When city hall is fully open, attendance for any room booking or rental is dependent on room capacities. There is no separate designation for micro-weddings or weddings in general," Adams wrote in an email.

"Areas of city hall most commonly rented are meeting rooms, but even council chambers can be rented as long as it does not impact or interfere with city council use and business.

“Outdoor space around the hall is free and people can access whenever they wish. However, there is no access to indoor space, washrooms, etc. if using the outdoor areas.”

The city does not, added Adams, get involved with wedding documents, officiants, photography, flowers etc.

According to the city's hall space rental charge document, renters could be charged $600 for using council chambers for half a day or pay $800 to use it for a whole day.

The cost to rent a single meeting room ranges from $180 to $240 or $360 to $480 to rent a double room, depending on the length of the meeting.

In addition, those who are interested can also pay $1,000 to hold special events at city hall, which allows them to have access to the Galleria and Atrium, security and janitorial needs.
