(Video) Burnaby shop workers punched, threatened with death by maskless man: RCMP

Police looking for help identifying suspect caught on camera during May 8 attack

Police are looking for help finding a unmasked man who allegedly attacked a Burnaby tool shop employee who asked him why he wasn’t wearing a mask.

The suspect entered the Summit Tools store on First Avenue just east of Boundary Road at about 12:30 p.m. on May 8, according to the Burnaby RCMP.

“An employee approached the suspect and asked him why he wasn’t wearing a mask,” stated a police news release Thursday. “The suspect attacked the employee and continued punching him in the head and back when he fell to the ground. When another employee interrupted the assault, the suspect threatened to kill the employee with a knife. Before leaving, the suspect grabbed a pair of bolt cutters and smashed the front window of the business.”

Police say the man then “charged” at an employee with the bolt cutters at least twice before driving off.

The RCMP have released video of the incident and are looking for help identifying the man.

“This was an unprovoked attack and very scary for everyone involved,” spokesperson Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in the news release. “Please help us identify this individual.”

The suspect is described as a white man with blonde hair in a buzz cut.

In the video, he is wearing a dark-grey hoodie, light blue jeans and black running shoes.

Anyone who might be able to identify the man or might have more information about the incident is asked to call Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999.
