One man is facing multiple charges after a security guard was stabbed in Vancouver's West End neighbourhood on July 18, 2021.

A 26-year-old man is facing multiple charges following a stabbing in the West End yesterday.

Around 10 a.m. Sunday, July 18, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) received reports that a security guard had been stabbed multiple times while trying to stop a shoplifter at the intersection of Thurlow and Davie streets. Officers arrived on the scene and were able to perform first aid until paramedics arrived.

The guard was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but is expected to recover.

Police then turned their attention to the suspect who fled before officers arrived at the scene.

"Dozens of VPD officers worked throughout the day to identify and locate the suspect, and thankfully he was arrested without incident last night,” says Sgt. Steve Addison.

They were able to identify the man and traced him to a building in the Downtown Eastside, states the VPD in the release. Police were able to arrest him around 7 p.m. Sunday night when he left the building.

He's now facing weapons and assault charges.
