As social media use continues to climb, platforms like Instagram and TikTok see more Indigenous creators educating the world and sharing their cultures. 

Here are a few influencers and creators from Vancouver to follow.

Owen Unruh 

Unruh is a Two Spirit creator in Vancouver, sharing videos on various topics including addiction recovery, modelling, and Indigenous heritage. 

Shannon Baker

The Indigenous actor, producer, and model shares her style and skits on TikTok as well as Instagram and her YouTube channel. 

Ilona Verley 

Featured on season one of Canada's Drag Race, Verley is a Two Spirit Nlaka'pamux transgender makeup artist based in Vancouver. Their Instagram is a rainbow of colourful, detailed makeup and drag. 

Peter White

Though White is not from Vancouver, the B.C. Ktunaxa and Yaqan Nukiy native, who goes by kanǂupqa kȼiǂmiyit (NightRunner) on social media, highlights Indigenous culture and dance on TikTok and Instagram. He also travelled across Metro Vancouver last year to perform the men’s traditional dance. 

Joleen Mitton (Miskinahk)

Joleen is an Indigenous mover-and-shaker within the city. She founded Vancouver Indigenous Fashion Week in 2011 and co-founded Supernatural Modelling, the world's only all-Indigenous modelling agency. Her Instagram highlights Vancouver's Indigenous community.
