Police remind drivers that school is back in session, Tuesday, September 7, which means school zones will be in effect. The 30-kilometre per hour speed limit is in effect from 8 am until 5 pm during normal school days unless indicated otherwise on the sign.

Fines for speeding in a school zone start at $196 and include three demerit points. Students returning to school can easily be distracted and not pay attention to vehicles. Drivers also need to be aware that school buses will be back on the road. It is illegal to pass a school bus in either direction when the stop sign is out and/or its red lights are flashing.

The school district has placed cameras onboard the buses so not stopping will be caught on video and that footage is forwarded to RCMP for further investigation. The fine for not stopping is $368. We all want to keep our children safe so please be alert, slow down and stop when required
