Reminder: You can shred personal documents this weekend at a Port Moody drive-thru fundraiser

Rotary Club members and Best Shredding are setting up the COVID-safe event at city hall on Saturday (June 5).

To help ensure people don’t become victims of fraud after they toss confidential documents in the trash, the Rotary Club of Port Moody is hosting a safe shredding event on June 5, 2021, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

As the season shifts to summer, Tri-City residents may still be looking to properly dispose of some personal paper found during spring cleaning they no longer need.

Regional Rotarians are looking to mitigate that large pile of old credit card bills, tax records and other related documents by hosting a shredding event in Port Moody. Getting those documents sliced and diced into thousands of little bits helps prevent fraud if they're tossed in the trash.

The club is setting up shop for its annual Shred-A-Thon fundraiser in front of city hall (100 Newport Dr.) with two trucks from Best Shredding, a mobile company based in Coquitlam that provides document shredding services.

Residents can bring and safely shred unwanted paper by donation to the club. The money will be earmarked for Rotary Club projects in the years to come.

The event will be a drive-thru format to meet COVID-19 physical distancing restrictions and ensure safety for everyone involved.

Participants will remain in their vehicles at all times while volunteers - all wearing masks - will unload documents and boxes.

The Shred-A-Thon is scheduled for tomorrow (June 5) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

For more information, you can visit the Rotary Club of Port Moody’s website.

The event is partially sponsored by Tri-City News.

The Rotary Club of Coquitlam hosted a similar shredding pop-up in late March.
