A 29-year-old man spent his first hours of 2023 in hospital after he was assaulted by two suspects wanted by Coquitlam RCMP.

Evan Clairmont and Jacob Robinson have each been charged following an investigation into the New Year's Day (Jan. 1) incident in the City Centre neighbourhood.

However, both have yet to be found and Mounties are asking the public to keep their eyes open as arrest warrants have been issued for the 23- and 24-year-olds.

Spokesperson Cpl. Alexa Hodgins explained the victim was changing a tire on his vehicle just before 3 a.m. on Jan. 1 near the intersection of Glen Drive and Johnson Street.

Two men attacked him, causing serious but non-life-threatening injuries to his head, and fled the scene before police arrived. The victim has since been released from hospital, Hodgins added.

Coquitlam RCMP's investigational support team took lead on the case and determined Clairmont and Robinson were the suspects in question.

"This unprovoked assault occurred in a busy area during the New Year's Eve festivities," said Hodgins in a release today (Jan. 20).

"Our investigators conducted a thorough investigation and quickly identified the suspects."

Clairmont and Robinson were charged last Friday (Jan. 13) with one count each of assault causing bodily harm, but have yet to be taken into police custody.

"If either Jacob or Evan are located by the public, please do not approach and contact 9-1-1 immediately," Hodgins urged.

Clairmont is described as:

  • White
  • 6'2"
  • Slim build

Robinson is described as:

Mounties did not provide images of the suspects, as of this publication.
