A Port Coquitlam woman was arrested in Surrey on June 4, 2021, during a traffic stop that unveiled imitation firearms and suspected fentanyl.

A Port Coquitlam woman was arrested, but has since been released as an alleged drug-trafficking investigation continues.

RCMP said she and a Surrey man — both aged 34 — were originally arrested last Friday (June 4) after a traffic stop unveiled pre-packed fentanyl as well as seven imitation firearms.

At 4:40 p.m. that afternoon, Surrey Mounties say they pulled over a vehicle near 94 Avenue and King George Boulevard for a motor vehicle act investigation.

However, the two people inside were arrested after officers found items related to drug trafficking while speaking with the driver.

Among the seized items included:

  • 157 grams of suspected fentanyl
  • Seven imitation firearms
  • Pistol magazine with live ammunition
  • Sword
  • Knife
  • $250 in cash

The B.C. Prosecution Service has stepped in to investigate the findings and both suspects were released at the scene.

Anyone with more information is asked to call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502, anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or go online to www.solvecrime.ca.

When it comes to the use of imitation firearms, Mounties explain possessing one or multiple can lead to consequences.

"Many people do not know that it is a crime to use, or possess imitation firearms during the commission of an offence," says spokesperson Cst. Sarbjit K. Sangha in a release from Thursday (June 10).

"In Canada, using imitation firearms to commit crimes is an indictable offence, meaning a person may be subject to jail time and financial penalties upon conviction."
