Port Coquitlam real estate office closed due to COVID-19

Targeted workplace closures for up to 10 days is seen as a way to stop the spread of COVID-19; in Port Coquitlam, which has been declared a 'hot spot,' a real estate office was recently shuttered

Dozens of businesses in the Fraser Health region have been shut down due to COVID-19, including a Port Coquitlam real estate firm.

A Port Coquitlam real estate firm is the latest business to be shut down by Fraser Health due to transmission of COVID-19 at the workplace.

On April 22, Fraser Health closed Keller Williams Elite Real Estate.

This follows a number of closures that took place on April 21, when Fraser Health closed GFR Pharma, a health food manufacturer located on North Bend Street in Coquitlam. A day earlier, public health and WorkPlaceBC teams shuttered Nexus Insurance Brokers off Lougheed Highway.

Also on Lougheed Highway, Port Coquitlam’s Solar Nails and Spa was revealed to have been shut on April 19; that closure was not previously reported by Fraser Health.

The closures come two weeks after provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said health authorities would start to disclose the names of workplaces where three or more people have COVID-19 and transmission is likely to have occurred.

With the new order, the closure notice can be served by the health authority’s environmental health officers or WorkSafeBC. The closure will generally be for 10 days, or as otherwise determined by the medical health officer, to prevent further transmission of COVID-19 and to allow time to update and approve the worksite COVID-19 safety plan.

“By using targeted worksite closures around current cases of COVID-19, we may be able to avoid or delay broader workplace closure measures, which could close entire business sectors,” notes Fraser Health on its website.

The move is meant to stop the spread of COVID-19 in viral hot spots, eventually limiting community transmission.

Port Coquitlam is also currently among 13 “high-transmission” communities across the province where people aged 40 to 55 are being targeted for special vaccine clinics

Several schools have also seen COVID-19 exposures as the Tri-Cities continues to have elevated case counts, although numbers have declined slightly.
