The nightmarish COVID-19 outbreak at Burnaby Hospital is finally over.

Provincial health officer Bonnie Henry declared the outbreak at Burnaby Hospital over after at least 10 people died and more than 100 cases were identified by Fraser Health.

The outbreak began on Nov. 9 after evidence of transmission in a medicine unit.

There were at least 60 patients and 43 staff associated with the COVID-19 outbreak at the hospital, said Fraser Health, as well as the 10 deaths.

The hospital was hit by a fire on Nov. 15 and that impacted some areas of the hospital and was cited as exacerbating the outbreak.

As a precaution, the hospital was not accepting new admissions for several days.

“We acknowledge the immense dedication our Burnaby Hospital team has demonstrated over the past few weeks and continue to show each and every day to ensure our patients receive the care they need,” said a news release
